Construction executes. Design decides. Before any of our five disciplines touches your property, the design phase resolves what the space wants to be: how you arrive, how the rooms of the garden relate to the rooms of the house, and how stone, water, planting, and architecture settle into one composition. You can engage Lush for design on its own, a paid engagement with no obligation to build, though most clients continue with us, because the people who drew the plan are the people who can deliver it to a ten-year standard.

What the Drawing Decides

Design decides where the morning sun lands on the breakfast terrace, what the kitchen window frames in February, how the drive greets a guest, and how the garden holds its presence after dark. These decisions cost nothing on paper and everything in stone, which is exactly why they are made on paper first.

A landscape is designed once and lived in for decades. We would rather spend one more week on the drawing than have you spend ten years living with a compromise.

The Method

How a Lush Design Takes Shape

Five measured stages, each with a deliverable in your hands, so the design phase feels as considered as the finished landscape.

Stage 01

Discovery Walk

We walk the property together and talk about how you live outdoors: arrival, entertaining, privacy, children, pets, and the moments you want the space to hold. You receive a written summary of the direction discussed.

Stage 02

Site Inventory & Analysis

Measurements, grades, drainage, sun mapping, existing structures, and any conservation authority constraints where they apply (TRCA, CVC, NEC). The deliverable is a documented site assessment the design must answer to.

Stage 03

Concept & Master Plan

Zones, circulation, proportion, and planting structure resolved into a master plan, reviewed with you in a working session rather than presented as a finished verdict.

Stage 04

Photoreal 3D & Refinement

The approved direction becomes a photoreal 3D concept you can walk through, refined with you until the design is exactly right before any ground is broken.

Stage 05

Design Package Handover

Layout plans, the material and planting palette, and a documented scope, packaged for a confident build decision, with us or with anyone you choose.

Three Ways to Engage the Studio

The design fee is set at the discovery walk once the scope is understood. These are the ranges each scale of engagement typically falls within. Photoreal 3D visualisation is included at the upper end of each range, and can be omitted for a reduced package fee.

$3,500 to $6,000

The City Lot

A focused design for an urban property: the full front or rear garden resolved, a courtyard reimagined, or a single space made to work beautifully.

$6,000 to $12,000

The Estate Grounds

A complete design for the property: arrival, entertaining, pool and spa, planting, and lighting composed as one environment.

$12,000 and up

The Full Master Plan

Large and conservation-adjacent properties, planned as a whole and phased over seasons, with permits and approvals accounted for from the first drawing.

It depends on the property and the scope. Most engagements move from the discovery walk to a refined concept within several weeks; large estates and permit-heavy sites take longer, and we set the timeline expectation at the discovery walk.

No. The design package is yours to keep and to build with whomever you choose. Most clients do continue with us, because the team that drew the plan carries it through to a built, warrantied landscape.

Yes, and we prefer to. The landscape reads best when it is designed in conversation with the architecture, so we collaborate directly with the professionals already on your project.

Where the site requires it, the design accounts for municipal permits and conservation constraints (TRCA, CVC, NEC) from the first drawing, so the plan you approve is a plan that can actually be built.
